Overview

The LMU Open Science Center is hosting its 5th hybrid Open Science Summer School, offering participants the option to join in person in Munich or online via Zoom.

The summer school is designed to equip early career researchers and research support staff with practical Open Science skills through two complementary tracks.

Apply or register now!

Track 1: Open Science knowledge and skills

07–11 September 2026

This track introduces participants to core Open Science practices aimed at improving the transparency, reproducibility, and credibility of research. It combines public lectures with hands-on workshops.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Plan research designs and statistical analyses in advance (e.g. preregistration, data simulation)
  • Build computationally reproducible workflows using version-controlled scripts
  • Prepare and share data and code following FAIR principles and best practices

Track 2: Open Science instructor training

14–15 September 2026

This track focuses on developing pedagogical and leadership skills for those interested in teaching and promoting Open Science. No prior teaching experience is required.

Participants will:

  • Learn how to design and deliver Open Science workshops
  • Apply effective teaching and engagement strategies
  • Develop skills to advocate for Open Science within their communities
  • Design and present their own workshop for future delivery

Participants are encouraged to implement their workshops after the program, with support from the LMU Open Science Center.

Funding & Partners

The summer school is organized by LMU Open Science Center Train-the-Trainer program coordinator Dr. Sarah von Grebmer zu Wolfsthurn.

The program is funded by the LMU Central Study Fund and the Volkswagen Foundation Pioneer Project grant, with in-kind support from the University Library of LMU Munich. Materials were developed in collaboration with PROFiL and FORRT.
